Clinical Practitioners Special Interest Group


The Special Interest Group was set up in 2010 following the dissolution of the Nurses Hypertension Association (founded in 1991) when its members were invited to join the, then BHS (now BIHS). The name was changed in 2013 to Nurses & Allied Health Professionals Working Party in order to widen the membership base, and subsequently  changed in 2023 to the Clinical Practitioners SIG. Members comprise nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals (AHPs) from both primary care and secondary care working in the field of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.

The Clinical Practitioners Special Interest Group has many functions but its Primary Aims are:

– to support healthcare professionals to achieve high quality and effective blood pressure measurements
– to promote early and appropriate diagnosis and improved clinical management of people with hypertension through education, research and contribution to guidance and policy.
